Location: St. Martin de Porres Catholic School – 230 Morningside Ave, East Scarborough
Term: September 2026-May 2027
Schedule: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays | 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Salary: $50.00 – $60.00 / hour (commensurate with experience)
Reports to: Director of Programming and Curriculum

About Sistema Toronto
Sistema Toronto is a free after-school music and social development program serving children in marginalized
communities. Our mission is to drive transformative social change through music education. Students participate in
10 hours of instruction per week—playing in orchestras, singing in choirs, and performing in drum ensembles.
Beyond developing musical talent, our teaching artists nurture essential life skills such as empathy, resilience,
collaboration, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Programming and Curriculum, the Advanced Strings Teaching Artist will guide and
inspire Sistema Toronto students aged 11–17. This role focuses on leading group orchestra classes for our
advanced and honours string players while supporting their social and emotional growth.
• Instruction & Ensemble Leadership: Rehearse and direct group string classes, preparing students for
expressive, high-level ensemble performances.
• Curriculum Alignment: Deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with Sistema Toronto’s curriculum outcomes,
maintaining culturally responsive teaching practices tailored to equity-seeking communities.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow Teaching Artists and the Centre Director to maintain a
cohesive, supportive learning environment across the entire centre.
• Mentorship: Foster social-emotional development, confidence, teamwork, and mutual respect among
students.
Key Qualifications
• Education & Performance: Master’s degree in Music Performance (or equivalent professional experience)
with advanced proficiency in violin, viola, or cello (required to lead all string instruments in orchestra setting).
• Pedagogical Experience: 4+ years of teaching experience with specialized knowledge in string instrument
pedagogy.
• Ensemble Leadership: Demonstrated experience conducting and managing youth musical ensembles.
• Student Engagement: Proven ability to motivate young musicians, build student confidence, and cultivate
expressive musicianship.
• Community Focus: Experience working within equity-seeking, diverse, or historically underserved
communities.
• Core Competencies: Strong organizational skills, clear communication, adaptable teamwork, and alignment
with Sistema Toronto’s mission and values.
